A district attorney and congressional candidate from Massachusetts gave chase Sunday morning when a man grabbed a purse from a woman sitting at a counter at the restaurant where he was eating.
DA William Keating was eating breakfast with his wife at the Country Fare Restaurant in Falmouth when the accused thief tried to make his escape with the purse, according to NECN.com and the Cape Cod Times. Keating was among a group that chased the suspect and cornered him until police arrived.
Keating is 58 and the suspect appeared to be in his 20s. Keating was captain of the track team in high school, and he credits that experience with helping him keep up during the chase, NECN.com says.
The suspect was charged with larceny and possession of a controlled substance. The purse was returned to the woman. It contained about $2,000 that she had hoped to use for her daughter’s wedding.
